Custom Jewelry
A piece that begins with your idea and is created by our hands.
Some jewelry is chosen from a collection, and some is created for a particular person.
At TzurGems, we create custom jewelry through a process that brings together Guy's gemological knowledge and the goldsmithing of Rafael, an artisan goldsmith.
The process begins with a personal meeting, continues with choosing the gemstone and metal, a hand-drawn sketch and careful planning — and ends with a piece made especially for you.
The design consultation
We believe a personal piece of jewelry should begin with time devoted entirely to it.
The design consultation is booked in advance and lasts up to an hour. During that time, we set aside our work for you, welcome you, sit down together over coffee and begin to understand what you would like to create.
You can arrive with a clear idea, inspiration photographs, an old piece of jewelry, a gemstone you already own — or simply a general sense of what you like.
You do not need to know how to draw or be familiar with professional terms. It is our role to take the idea and turn it into a piece that can be made properly.
The design consultation is paid, and the amount paid is credited towards the price of your order when you proceed with making the piece.
The gemstone is part of the design
When a piece includes a gemstone, we do not choose it solely by color or size.
We consider the type of stone, the quality of its cut, its proportions and durability, any treatments where relevant, and its suitability for the jewelry and how it is expected to be worn.
This is where gemological knowledge also becomes part of the process.
If you have your own gemstone, you can bring it to the consultation and we will consider together how best to incorporate it into the new piece.
From idea to paper
At our studio, sketches are not created on a computer.
Rafael develops the design by drawing it by hand, as part of his work as an artisan.
Through the sketch, we begin to see the idea take shape: the proportions, the placement of the gemstones, the structure and the character of the piece.
At this stage, we can still refine, change and consider the options together.
This is also one of our favorite moments in the process — when an idea that has so far existed only in your mind begins to appear on paper.
You are part of the planning
Your involvement in the planning stage is considerable.
Together, we choose the direction, gemstone, metal and proportions, and make sure that the design we have agreed on suits you.
This is the time to ask questions, consider your options and make changes.
Once the design has been approved and the piece enters production, changes can no longer be made in most cases. From that point, the goldsmithing passes into Rafael's hands.
Until production begins, we plan together. Once production starts, you can trust us to take what we have agreed on and carry it out to the best of our ability.
An artisan's goldsmithing
Custom jewelry is not a product that comes off a production line.
During the work, small decisions are made through experience, familiarity with the metal and gemstone, and the goldsmith's eye.
That is why, once production has begun, we give Rafael the space to carry out the work as planned.
Setting, finishing, polishing and the final inspection are completed at the end — and only then is the piece ready to be handed over.
How long does it take?
In most cases, our delivery time is between three weeks and a month after the design and order have been finalized.
A rare gemstone, a special cut that must be ordered from abroad, or a particularly complex design may require additional time.
If the jewelry is intended for a particular date — a birthday, anniversary, wedding or proposal — please tell us at the design consultation.
A piece created for you
To us, custom design is not choosing a model and changing a few details.
It is a process that begins with a conversation, moves through a gemstone, metal and a hand-drawn sketch, and continues with goldsmithing carried out especially for you.
Guy — gemologist.
Rafael — artisan goldsmith.
Two disciplines that meet to create one piece.
